The dogs below were rescued directly from areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. Some of these dogs had ID tags and families that are hopefully searching for them. Underdog Rescue will do everything in our power to reunite these dogs with their families when they are able to care for them again.
We have been inundated with requests from folks who want to adopt a "Katrina Dog". What many people do not understand is that every day (especially now after Katrina) HUNDREDS of dogs die in our Los Angeles area shelters. Many of these shelters had to "make room" for dogs affected by the hurricane by euthanizing CA dogs that were in the shelter waiting to be adopted. Yesterday, along with the Katrina dogs, Underdog Rescue rescued 5 other dogs off of death row from Los Angeles area shelters. We refer to these Underdogs as "Katrina Bumped Dogs".
This is not meant to make light of the tragedy that has befallen the beautiful dogs we rescued from Louisianna yesterday. But we cannot forget or overlook the TRAGEDY that is the Los Angeles area shelter system on a daily basis. The dogs we save from these shelters have lived their own nightmares and are just as deserving as any other at a second chance at LIFE!!! If you are ready to open your heart and home to a rescued dog, and are touched by the Katrina disaster, as we all are, please consider adopting an Underdog! |
